Mission: To improve livelihoods and aleviate poverty in Asia by providing opportunities for education and inspiration

About Children of Shambala (COS) and it's primary project, Orphanage Without Walls (OWW):

OWW is a road out of poverty through education targeting some of the poorest and most vulnurable orphans in Asia today. OWW is a cooperation between a foster family, a school and COS. Together we enable the foster family to take care of the orphan and to send the orphan to school, enabling the school to give the kids the best possible education and enabling the orphan to pursue the highest possible level of education they can achieve. OWW focuses particularly on orphan girls. By summer 2012, OWW has provided vital support to 600 orphans and 2300 foster family members.

Volunteer/Internship Opportunity:
The Shambala Fellowship Program is for people interested in working in Asia on behalf of COS and OWW. It’s an innovative program looking to supplant the program fees typical of these kinds of programs. Instead, COS seeks applicants who demonstrate an enthusiasm for fundraising on behalf of the children in the OWW program. All Fellows accepted into the program will have all expenses paid by COS and receive a monthly stipend.

COS Fellows apply for a position with one of our partner organizations in China, Thailand or Burma. Volunteer responsibilities vary according to location and can include: general program support (e.g. editing English language materials, writing/editing grant proposals), marketing and fundraising, capacity building for staff members, social enterprise development, and field exploration for establishing new OWW sites.

Fellows receive personalized mentorship about fundraising strategies and are responsible for fundraising on behalf of OWW. Applicants include a fundraising plan in their application to be accepted as a Fellow.
How to apply:

Step 1. Fill out and submit the Application Form (which can be found on our website: http://www.childrenofshambala.org) and all supplementary application materials.

Step 2. Promising applicants will be invited to a phone/Skype interview.

Step 3. Applicants who pass the first interview will receive an information packet, including detailed fundraising strategies and an outline of our budget. Applicants create a fundraising plan for the year and a personal fundraising goal to support children in the OWW program.*

Step 4. The second interview consists of consulting applicants on their fundraising plans and finalizing a realistic, but challenging, personal fundraising goal. We accept applicants based on their ability to create thoughtful fundraising plans and challenging, but realistic, personal fundraising goals.** Fellows are held accountable to these goals. If Fellows show no progress in reaching their personal fundraising goals, their position with SFP may be postponed or cancelled.

The cost of supporting one child in the OWW program is 50 USD/month. This includes any costs associated with the child’s current education, funds for their future schooling (i.e. college or vocational school), and a small stipend for their foster family.

**Goals and plans will vary by person. Some people with better connections or more fundraising experience might have higher goals. Others who are younger or not be able to fundraise as easily in their home countries will have lower goals.

Step 5: Go to Asia!

Each fellowship lasts for 12 months. For 2013-14 we need 12 Fellows.

For any questions regarding the fellowship program please email us at: Fellows@childrenofshambala.org

We are looking for candidates from diverse educational backgrounds, with diverse skills, experience and interests. If you have experience in accounting, teaching, training, auditing, economics, business, organization building, marketing, sales, programming, recruiting or anything else you think might be useful for a growing organization, we want you to be part of our team.

Applicants should have excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English. Chinese, Thai or Tibetan is helpful but not required.
